Midland’s Acro Club traveled to Southwestern Adventist University to participate in Acrofest 2024. One of the highlights of the trip was when Midland partnered with four other clubs to present an assembly at a local public junior high school. “Those kids were so into our message. I can’t believe how God opened the door for us to enter this mission field and openly share Jesus.” said Jonathan Borne, sponsor.

Thursday, November 14 from 1:30 – 2:30pm, Midland will host the NAD College Fair. Eleven colleges from across North America will have tables with information about their programs and scholarships. Recruiters from each college will be available to answer questions. High school seniors who attend schools other than Midland and are interested in finding out more about Adventist colleges are invited to attend.

Midland teachers are continuously finding fun ways to engage students in learning. Mr. Dennis brought his VR headset to world history class so students could explore the Terracotta Army, after they studied about it in their China unit.

Midland high school students and staff were blessed this week by Pastor Elizabeth Adams' messages about Trusting Jesus during our fall Week of Prayer. Pastor Beth is the associate pastor at the Linwood Blvd SDA Temple in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mrs. Wehling and Midland’s 6th grade students enjoyed learning outdoors at Broken Arrow Ranch with thirty other 6th grade students from across the Conference. Their classes included wilderness survival, orienteering, and camp cooking. Special thanks to Seth Groeneweg and Greg Creek for going along as helpers on the adventure. Five Midland seniors have been accepted into Midland’s chapter of the National Honor Society this year. The four pillars of the NHS are scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Congratulations to Briley, Cody, David, Logan, and Natalie! A special Induction Service will be held in a few weeks to mark this milestone.

Midland students in Mrs. Murphy’s and Mrs. Shields’ classrooms have been working diligently in their STEM gardens, mixing soil and fertilizer, planting for fall and of course watering. In Midland's first Cross Country meet of the season, Aiden Cowan was a top-10 medalist! All runners finished the race and Emma Dean had a personal best time. Congratulations to Coach Murphy and each runner.

Midland K-2 students enjoyed exploring the world famous Topeka Zoo this week. As Mrs. Murphy and Ms. Deutsch led the students from the tropical rainforest to the African savannah, there were animals, birds, fish, amphibians, and reptiles everywhere they looked! They were reminded all day long what an awesome creator God we have!

The core value we are focusing on this month is Service. One way that students demonstrate this value is by volunteering at the Renewed Hope Food Pantry. Students in Mrs. Shields classroom are down to business in the first weeks of school. In Language Arts, they are creating a Growth Mindset Journal to help promote a positive attitude. This type of writing will help grow confidence and resilience, fulfill potential, and encourage the students to become more flexible in different ways of learning.

Midland’s high school students and staff enjoyed the annual Broken Arrow Ranch retreat this week. It is always a highlight of the year. Thank you to those who volunteered their time to make this a successful event. We are ready for another amazing school year at Midland Adventist Academy. It is exciting to watch God work and reward the faith of students, parents, and staff with answered prayers. We ask you to join us on Sabbath evening, August 17 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. for our annual Prayer Walk. We’ll pray for each student and staff by name, seek God’s guidance and protection and thank Him for answered prayer.

It has been a very busy summer at Midland! We are getting ready for a fresh, new school year, filled with learning and making new friends. Promethean Interactive Display Panels have been installed in each classroom to help increase student engagement and interest. For Principal’s Scholar Day, Mr. Murphy and the twelve Midland high school students who maintained a 3.90+ GPA throughout the first three quarters of the school year, spent the day in Topeka. They visited Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Park, enjoyed lunch at Hu Hot and toured the capitol. Follow us on Facebook.

Mrs. Frishman’s STEM students in grades 3 – 6 had the amazing opportunity to visit the Apple Store for an adventure in coding.

Midland Physical Science and Pre-Calc students had the opportunity to learn key science and technology principles, then defy gravity by actually flying at the Overland Park iFly indoor sky diving facility. They were fired up about math and physics when they saw it come to life in a state-of-the-art wind tunnel. Instructors guided them through an immersive, hands-on experience that included measuring and recording data and interpreting results.

Midland’s Kindergarten STEM class created “rubberized” eggs by soaking raw eggs in a jar of vinegar. The vinegar broke down the shells in about three days, leaving the membrane and egg intact. Students enjoyed experimenting to see what height the eggs could be dropped from before splattering open when they hit the ground. Follow us on Facebook.

Students and staff were totally engaged as the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes took turns leading out in the recent high school Week of Prayer. The theme, “Finding Our Purpose” was explored in many different ways; visual scientific experiments, student written drama, daily ice breakers, music and the spoken Word. Midland’s 5th & 6th grade students enjoyed a fun day of learning outside the regular classroom at the School of Economics, where they each had a job to perform in the life-like city. They learned about the importance of teamwork in running a successful business. The flow of the simulation is for consumers to receive a paycheck and make spending decisions based on needs and wants, including food for lunch. Midland's Kindergarten class has been learning how peanuts grow. They have planted seeds in the classroom and will transplant them to their STEM garden. After a peanut flower withers, it attaches itself to the soil and the peanuts form underground. People love eating peanuts, and also use them for animal feed. Scientist George Washington Carver developed many other uses for the humble peanut. Among them were new forms of cheese, coffee, flour, ink, wood stain, and soap. Subscribe to our YouTube channel.

We’re celebrating Black History Month at Midland. We are so thankful for the diversity that our Black students and staff bring to our school family. This month students have enjoyed tours of the Negro League Baseball Museum and the Jazz Museum. The All-School Assembly showed in song, spoken word and art what students have been learning through their friendships and class group studies about the Black community who have contributed so much to our world. Midland students in grades 3 – 8 are preparing their science fair projects. They are choosing a project, doing research, and thinking about display boards. The fair will be in the Midland gym, on Tuesday, March 5 from 6:00 – 7:00pm. Join us for an evening of discovering what these young scholars have explored and take the opportunity to ask them questions.

Midland’s kindergarten class has been learning about polar bears. Polar bears live to be 25-30 years old. Their favorite food is seals and they hunt by swimming beneath the ice. Young polar bears learn how to defend themselves by "play" fighting. God cares about all His creatures, whether they be polar bears or people! Follow us on Facebook!

We’ve been learning some fun Kansas Facts in preparation for Kansas Day, Monday, January 29. Did you know that Pizza Hut, Freddy’s, the Icee, the helicopter, the fly swatter, and the game of basketball all began in Kansas? Some notable Kansans are Amelia Earhart, Dwight D Eisenhower, Walter P. Chrysler, Vivian Vance, Carry Nation, and Bob Dole.

Mrs. Prosser’s 1st and 2nd graders are studying the body in Science class. They made cut-out figures of themselves and are coloring and pasting on drawings of different body parts as they study about them.

Midland’s Kindergarten class celebrated learning all their letters and sounds with an Alphabet Fashion Show. Each student designed a vest showcasing the letter they had chosen, and walked the fashion runway! Turning from side to side and stopping now and then to display their vest of alphabet soup, they enjoyed the cheers of students and staff lining the hallway. Creativeness reigned from Zebra to KC Chiefs Arrowhead to Jolly Ranchers and Snakes.
